Facilities and Gear

The facilities and gear of the club can be used by any member of the club. You have to have your Membership card with you when using these facilities. Only current members are allowed to use the facilities or otherwise stated.

When using these facilities, please do so according to the rules and regulations of the University of Pretoria.

LIST OF FACILITIES:

Climbing Wall: The Climbing Wall can be used by all members during official club nights. In the event that it rains, the club nights will move to the Boulder Cave. If you want to climb on the Wall at other times, you first have to pass the Assessment. See the events tab for when Assessment dates are scheduled. An assessed member is allowed to use the Wall at these times:

Boulder Cave: The Boulder Cave is located on LC de Villiers on the RAG Farm. See the map lower on this page or just ask the guards at the entrance for directions. Please keep the Cave tidy and pick up your belongings before leaving. See the Rules and Regulations at the bottom of the page. The Boulder Cave can be used during the following times:

USING AND RENTING OF GEAR AND EQUIPMENT

Any current member is allowed to use any of the equipment we have available. You do however first have to pass an assessment test. Assessments are done a number of times a year. Keep an eye on the website for when the next one is. Click HERE to download the Assessment Training manual.All equipment has to be signed for and facilitated by a Committee member.

Here is a list of the available gear:

• Complete sets of Sport Climbing gear (Including quickdraws, belay devices, carabiners, slings and dynamic ropes)
• Trad Climbing Rack
• Jeff (The club's mobile fridge)
• Second hand Climbing shoes
• Cordless drill for bolting
• Boulder Pads
• Static Ropes
• Full set of 1:50 000 Topographical maps of South Africa

We ask that assessed members wanting to rent out gear, please collect it either on Monday or Wednesday nights after club night. Please bring the gear back before the next club night as we use some of the gear at club nights. Don't call Theunis at 5pm on a Friday. He's probably going to be in Tonquani on the last pitch of some climb or flying somewhere and won't help you.

MAGALIESBERG

We have 10 MCSA memberships. this means that 10 Explo members can use the MCSA facilities and gain access to their land.

This service is only available for Exploratio members. If you want to use some of these memberships, contact Jaco Zwarts at jacozwarts@yahoo.com or 084 652 8524.

DISCOUNT AND SPONSORSHIP

Mountain Pursuits have generously provided Exploratio members with 15% discount on all their products. If you join their community newsletter, you get an additional 10%.
