Beginner’s trad weekend

The beginner’s trad weekend will be held at Tonquani on the weekend of 1 and 2 May. A maximum of 20 people will be allowed on the trip due to the fact that passes for the kloof is required. This weekend will only be open for those who can climb at least grade 20 and up, due to the fact trad climbing is more dangerous and technical than sport climbing.

We will be camping just above the kloof, there are no facilities and everything must be carried up, except for water. The weekend will set you back R50: this will be for getting there and back.

Hikers are also welcome; this is the grandest and most attractive kloofs in the Magaliesberg.

The longest climbs are on the Coffin Buttress (80m). The climbs elsewhere average 40-50m. The rock is generally excellent and water is available everywhere. This is one of the most popular kloofs: with almost 150 routes, mostly multi-pitch trad routes. These routes are graded from 5 to 25 and include many classics such as Hawk's Eye and Stone Needle.
