Beginners Hike to Drakensberg Amphitheatre

Explo will be holding a 2 day beginners hike in the Drakensberg.

The Amphitheater is the easiest access to the Drakensberg escarpment. We will drive down and hike up on Saturday, have sun downers with our feet hanging off the 940m escarpment face, and spend the night camped next to the second highest waterfall in the world.

If that didn’t sell you, maybe hiking isn’t for you. Just kidding...

SCHEDULE

--Saturday--

05:00 - Meet at LC Wall
05:30 - Leave for Drakensberg Sentinel Car park
10:00 - Pack backpacks and set off up Amphitheater chain ladder route.

Arrive before sunset, pitch camp, sundowners and merriment.

--Sunday--

Sunrise overlooking the valleys

Exploring day – Swim in the pools just before the waterfall, walk to the highest point in the area (Mont-Aux-Sources), explore the escarpment edge all the way round on top of the amphitheatre up until devils tooth, check out crows nest cave etc.

After lunch we will pack up camp and hike back to car park.

WHAT YOU NEED

• Warm clothing
• Rain gear
• Comfy clothes for hiking
• Hiking shoes or tekkies
• Tent
• Sleeping Bag
  
• Stove and Cooking utensils
• Food for the two days
• Camera for the spectacular sunsets
• Drinks (Last year, 17 year old Nico carried a Case of Label up!)

Organise with each other so that everyone doesn't carry up a tent
